University Building

The University Building, also known as Old Central, is the oldest building on campus and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A stone marker over the main door records the date, "1874" and Central's motto, "Lex, Rex-Crux, Lux" or "The Law is the King - The Cross is the Light". In its long history the University Building has served many funcitions. The model teaching school occupied the quarters from 1906 to 1909 and again from 1930 to 1960. It now houses the offices and classrooms for the Department of History and is part of the new addition of the library.
