Hummel Planetarium

Built in 1976, the Hummel Planetarium is named in honor of Dr. Arnim D. Hummel, a leader in the establishment of programs in the sciences at Eastern Kentucky University from 1929 to 1947. He served as head of the Department of Physics and as chair of the Science Division. The Planetarium, the eleventh largest in the nation, features a true hemispheric dome measuring 68 feet in diameter, and is tilted 23 degrees to the true horizon. The theater provides seating for 164 patrons. Public showings are every Thursday and Friday: 6:00 pm Children's Program; and 7:30 pm Feature Program; and every Saturday: 2:00 pm Children's Program; 3:30 pm Feature Program; 6:00 pm Children's Program; and 7:30 pm Feature Program.
